This guided study was designed to accompany Holiday Pond by Edith M. Patch  as well as selections from By Pond and River by Arabella Buckley.  With 36 lessons, it includes a complete lesson companion for each chapter as well as object lessons, extension lessons, notes for supportive additional reading and printable pages. This guide was designed for ages 7-9, although slightly older children can be included if expectations are shifted upward to better meet their needs. 
 
Note: This guide is different from the pond life study included in the current Year Two: The Complete Guide, although many of the lessons are the same. By the Pond: A Guided Study is an updated version of this study, although one is not necessarily superior to the other. This guide is used in Program 1 for Lower School B.
