Shakespeare Storybook & Other Tales: A Reading Guide combines the stories to be read along with the lessons, so no books are needed. This guide combines Mary Macleod's Shakespeare Storybook with selections of some of the history plays and Roman plays from Morris's Tales from Shakespeare. [Morris created his own Tales from Shakespeare, adding to the retellings put forward by Charles and Mary Lamb. He added history plays, Roman plays and a few others left out.]
The lessons in this guide will provide the teacher with the teaching notes needed to prepare the readings, multiple and varied narration suggestions, picture studies, a light introduction to some literary terms and printable coloring pages. It is designed to be used with one reading per week for a full 36 week year or two readings per week for 18 months. 18 plays are covered -divided into 2 readings each.
These lessons are targeted for Year Six students, although it could certainly be used up through Year Nine. [Older students could complete it in half the time, which leaves the remainder of the year to complete a full play from Shakespeare.]
