This new guide includes American history, literature, poetry and recitation for Year 2 and/or Year 3 for one year.
It differs from Program 2: Lesson Guide for Lower School B in that it is designed for Year 2 and/or Year 3 students only [Year 4 will stand-alone.] as well as having Natural History, Geography and the optional World History section removed. This makes for a less bulky and overwhelming guide. Use this guide to create your own curriculum at the website. Add in geography, World History [if you wish] and Natural History for a complete year. Years 2 and 3 share the same guide, so feel free to use it with either year or combine students in both years together.
Students will study American History from approximately 1500-1799 with a focus on Colonial America and the American Revolution, emphasizing such historical persons as Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Phillis Wheatley and such events as The Boston Tea Party.
Some literature and poetry selections give students a taste of the 16th-18th century time period -one which fits within the broad scope of this study. Students will enjoy an introduction to Shakespeare, William Blake, Greek mythology, selections from The Book of Nature Myths and classic children's literature such as Understood Betsy, Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, The Poet's Dog and more! Add on the modern section of A Child's History of the World: A Guided Study for World History to fully expand on the study of this time period.
