I'm curious: Are these meant to be read from cover-to-cover at each encounter? Poems from A Child's Calendar seem too short to be satisfying individually, but the whole book at one go is rather overwhelming! Breaking the reading into chunks might defeat the time-lapse idea, so I'm interested to know what others have decided to do.
While I understand that the block given in the sample schedule for "Timeline" is optional and meant as something of a placeholder for families in later Years, I'm curious to know what it's holding a place for, exactly. What is timeline study?
While I've read over and over that Charlotte Mason advocated against formal schooling/structure in the early years, the sample schedule and book lists for this level have inspired me to make picture books about time, seasons, and holidays a regular mainstay in my home. My daughter is current 2 years old, but we read The Raft (over about three sessions as her interest waxed and waned) and felt the urge to go outside to a nearby forest preserve--complete with a waterway!--to hike and explore; that's how I knew AMITL could be on to something!
