My DD reads well. She basically taught herself. We used puzzles to make letters, I would tell her the sounds, etc... Then she wanted to write stories, lists, make a calendar, she would copy words that she found interesting. She learned how to read by spelling and seeing all the words that she liked or the stories she was making. We use the McGuffey readers now and do spelling dictation on the words she does not know how to spell or read. That said, should I do a formal Phonics with her?
What if a child reads well but needs more practice and has some phonics, should the child continue with the phonics or just keep on with the reading practice?
